Recent Updates and Currently Reading | May 28

Hello, friends! Another week has gone by without me posting any reviews, but I have a long weekend and a determination to get caught up.

Summer is here, and hopefully it will help the mental health! My husband and I went out to eat just the two of us and did some book shopping Friday. I got to work in the yard a little and watch a lot of baseball yesterday. I also read a lot this weekend which I haven't been able to do much of lately.

Do you read more or less in the summer? I think I typically read less in the summer, but this year I'm reading *while* watching baseball so I think that may help make up for doing other things while it's warm out.

Finished Reading

At the End of Every Day by Arianna Reiche

At the End of Every Day by Arianna Reiche ⭐⭐★★★ - This 2⭐ pains me because this book started out so good and I had such high hopes for it. In the end, it was just a really confusing read.

Currently Reading

Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey

Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey - I'm hoping to focus on this book this week because I truly am enjoying it. Easier, shorter books keep winning my attention, but that just means I get to savor this one when I do pick it up.

Added to the TBR

Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian Deep as the Sky, Red as the Sea by Rita Chang-Eppig A Million Junes by Emily Henry

Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian - Listen to this description! "Red Rabbit is a folk horror epic about a ragtag posse that must track down a witch through a Wild West beset by demons and ghosts - where death is always just around the bend." YES. Red Rabbit comes out in September from Tor Nightfire. (Thank you, Nightfire!)

Deep as the Sky, Red as the Sea by Rita Chang-Eppig - I was so excited to see this new release at my local bookstore. A Chinese pirate queen. I need her story in my life, and that cover. I absolutely had to own this book.

A Million Junes by Emily Henry - I was also excited to find A Million Junes at the used bookstore! I told my husband I wanted to see if I could find a copy of A Million Junes and what luck!

  1. I think season does not change how many books I read but rather influence the genre I read. Less fantasy or gothic reads in summer!

    1. That's really interesting! I'm going to give that some thought because I feel like I read fantasy in the summer, and I don't really have the time for big tomes...

  2. Hooray for finding a copy of A Million Junes. I thought that book was beautiful! Hope you do too. You still have younger children, right? When my daughter was younger, she kept me busy in the summer, so I bet that can cut into your reading time. I didn't start pleasure reading until she went to college. My reading rate stays about the same.

  3. I haven't heard of A Million Junes but lovely that you found a copy. I don't think my reading differs from winter to summer. But I know feasting on Ted Lasso has dropped my reading a little.

    1. There's definitely a trade off when you get hooked on a series!

  4. Some fun books showing up here! Hope you enjoy them. I usually seem to read more in the summer because I read a lot on vacations (you know, airplanes are perfect reading opportunities) but we have no trips planned this year, so.....it'll be interesting to see if that changes.

    1. I have a very shaded area at the back of my yard that stays a nice temperature. I find myself reading out there a lot in the summer :)

  8. I think I read about the same, but watch less tv in the summer. Now I am going to pay attention because I am not really sure! Lol.

I am glad you were able to get some recharge time!

    1. Ooh, that's true, too. If it weren't for baseball, I'd probably read a lot more in the summer.

  9. I think I read a bit less in the summer since I, too, am a baseball fan. I do read while watching but slower than usual. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Reading while watching is new to me, and with the pitch clock we don't have a lot of reading time. I'm enjoying it, though.

  10. I tend to read more in the summer because there's less to watch on TV, and I have a few months off work which also gives me more time. In theory. ;D

  12. When I was teaching and then homeschooling, I think I read more in the summer. Now it's fairly even across the seasons... or at least, I think it is!
