Recent Updates and Currently Reading | February 19

Hi, friends! How was your reading week? Mine was a struggle, but the weekend seems to be going better. I didn't finish reading a single book last week, but the books I'm reading are great so it's fine.

Today I'm driving my 10 year old out to a state park to go hiking. Maybe I'll read tonight. We'll see!

I'm thinking of getting some cozy games to play on my computer while I listen to audiobooks. Do you have any recommendations of fun games I can play where I don't have to listen to or read anything? I have Stardew Valley on my phone, and it's not hooking me at all. Is it better on the PC? I'm currently looking at Unpacking and A Little to the Left, but I'm not sold on them being very fun.

The Unknown. Weird Writings, 1900-1937 by Algernon Blackwood The Helm of Midnight by Marina J. Lostetter The Scrivener’s Bones by Brandon Sanderson

The Unknown. Weird Writings, 1900-1937 by Algernon Blackwood - I'm loving this so much. It comes out mid-March so I'll hopefully have it finished and reviewed by then.

The Helm of Midnight by Marina J. Lostetter - I'm enjoying this one, too. I was hoping to finish it this weekend, but I'm only halfway done. It's chunky.

The Scrivener’s Bones by Brandon Sanderson - This is book two of the Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians series. I'm lol'ing at this one. Very cute.

The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty - My excitement for this book is off the charts. THANK YOU to Harper Voyager for sending this to me. It's a pirate book by S.A Chakraborty. Look at that cover. (Look at both of these covers side by side! What a book haul.)

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - My husband and I did a little Valentine's shopping, and I got The Priory of the Orange Tree. I don't know when I'm going to fit this behemoth of a book into my reading schedule, but I will!!

  1. My friend is headed to Utah in early March and the thing she is looking forward to the most is sitting in on one of Brandon Sanderson's classes.

I'm very curious to hear more about the Algernon Blackwood book.

My two favorite go-to games are Card Shark (solitaire games) and Crush Words.

  2. Hiking sounds like fun. Our weather and landscape are still too wintery.

  5. I hope this week is better for your reading! I've played The Sims while listening to audiobooks, but I know the game so well that I don't have to read the popups.

  10. I have a couple games I play on my ipad but none that I actually play on the pc. Mine are just simple ones: cookie jam, cooking dash, and a coloring app. I most often use the coloring app while listening to audiobooks.

    1. I will look into Cooking Dash because I do play Cookie Jam when I run out of Candy Crush lives. :) I've just started using a coloring app. I will probably do that more.

  11. Unpacking is a LOT of fun, but if you're looking for an audiobook game, I feel like I should let you know it's only a couple of hours long! I think I played it all the way through in about an hour and 45 minutes. Also, while you don't have to read or listen to anything, the sounds the items make are one of the best parts of the game IMO because they put a lot of effort into each item sounding different based on what surface you place it on, so you might want to be able to listen to it if you're like me and like the different sounds!

If you like coloring games, I love playing Happy Color on my phone or iPad while listening to audiobooks! I've also been really enjoying a mobile game lately called Snack Bar, where you run little restaurants staffed by cats. It's very cute and doesn't have any dialogue or anything!

    1. Thank yoooouuu, Destiny! This is perfect. I may still try Unpacking when I'm too anxious to read because that sounds like something I should do. I tried Happy Color on my phone, and I will continue using it! I will give Snack Bar a try, too.
