We are heading into spooky season! Horror Spotlight is having a readathon September 1 - 15 if you'd like to join us. Any diverse horror counts - just use the hashtag #SpotlightReadathon on socials so we can share.
Do you change what you read based on the time of year? "Beach reads" in the summer, darker books in the fall? I don't think I do, but I love how dark other people's feeds get in the fall!
Finished Reading
The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson ⭐⭐⭐⭐★ - This was fun and such an easy read!
The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe ⭐⭐⭐★★ - This was a reread in preparation of reading What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher.
Currently Reading
Babel by R.F. Kuang - I have built up my expectations for this one SO HIGH. I hope I wind up loving it as much as I think I'm going to.
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson - My reread is going great. I'm 600 pages in with no regrets.
One Piece, Volume 5: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Eiichiro Oda - I need more time in the day! My 9 year old is now obsessed with One Piece and he has passed me up in the anime which means I am now being spoiled. He can't help it - he's bursting to talk about it.
Added to the TBR
Babel by R.F. Kuang - This was released last week, and I've thrown out the TBR to read it.
I don't feel I am a seasonal reader, though, if we are talking new releases, now is the time we will start seeing a lot of holiday books. I will definitely be reading quite a few of those. I hope you have lots of fun with the read-a-thon
ReplyDeleteOooh, I really should read some holiday books this year. I've read one the last couple of years, and I'd like to read a few if I can.
DeleteI'm not a seasonal reader, I'm too much of a mood reader. Plus it takes a bit of preparation and that's hard for me too, lol.
ReplyDeleteI've been strictly mood reading this summer, and it has been so wonderful.
DeleteSounds like a fun readathon. I wish I had more time to devote to book events, but with school, I'm focused too much on homework. I hope you enjoy it, though!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Oh, yes. I only read on breaks in college. I understand.
DeleteI do think I read darker stuff in the fall. I definitely WANT to go darker when the fall season starts- I guess I am a seasonal reader in thatsense. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah - I guess I could say that, too. I want to go darker, but I'm not sure things really change much.
DeleteI hate being this way, but scary books don't just scare me...they terrify me...they keep me up at night...I'm left with those visual images for weeks and months.
ReplyDeleteSo, sadly, I keep reading everything except scary books, even while all around me everyone else is enjoying the scary stuff.
Aw, it sounds like you are sad about it. I'm sorry you miss out on the scary stories, but there's definitely nothing wrong with not reading them! As someone who obsesses over images and thoughts, too, I don't blame you at all for not reading them. I do my best to skip certain ones that I know will do the same for me.
DeleteI hope you love Babel! I'm too intimidated by it but so many readers are raving😁
ReplyDeleteIt's getting good, but I'm not far enough to know yet. Fingers crossed!
DeleteI'm not about horror but I do like mystery/ thrillers and paranormal creepies.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
A lot of thrillers fall into what we call horror-adjacent. :)
