Books Read Last Week
The Immortals (Olympus Bound #1) by Jordanna Max Brodsky
I thought The Immortals was going to be much more of a fantasy read, but it fit squarely into the thriller/mystery genre. I may have enjoyed it more if I had been expecting the typical mystery formula going into it (and I likely wouldn't have read it just after reading The Widow). A great amount of research went into writing The Immortals and I loved reading characters based on Greek gods, but I never felt connected to what I was reading. It was an enjoyable read, but I probably won't continue on with the series.

A pity The Immortals didn't quite work for you, but at least you have read it and know it is most likely not going to be a continuation into the series.

DeleteI hate when you go into a book expecting one thing and getting another. Sometimes it's ok but sometimes it ruins a perfectly good book.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird how expectations can have such an affect. I wish it didn't work that way, but it does for me.
DeleteAmulet is such a popular title at the library, it's nearly impossible to keep a copy of the latest title on the shelves!
ReplyDeleteIt's a weird thing. I had to wait for all of the first 5 books, but my regular library didn't have the 6th one. I had to get a digital copy from my other library, but that library still doesn't have book 7.

DeleteI was surprised too that The Immortals turned out to be a mystery/thriller, and in some ways it almost reminded me of Dan Brown. Sorry to hear it didn't work for you, but I understand, I think I would have been let down too if I expected more fantasy!

DeleteI liked The Immortals but I had some issues with it too. It took me a bit to get into it, and I didn't connect with the MC for quite a while (towards the end when she was humanized more, I guess) so I definitely know what you mean.
