Books Read Last Week
The Horror at Red Hook by H.P. Lovecraft
I read The Horror at Red Hook in preparation of reading The Ballad of Black Tom. A few reviewers mentioned wishing they had read it first.
I'm learning that I have a thing for phosphorescent horror. I can be completely ho-hum about a book and then suddenly "Ooooh, phosphorescence. This is fantastic!". If you enjoy Lovecraft stories like The Shunned House {review}, you will probably enjoy this one, too.

Hap and Leonard. Oh my gosh. I started watching the TV series. I had only read the first book in the series, and now all I want to do is read Hap and Leonard. At some point I will burn out on reading them, but that hasn't happened yet.
I did take a small break from Hap and Leonard to read Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai. If you plan to read this one, don't do the audio. The narrator is perfectly fine, but the book is written in verse. Seeing as how my opinion is so unpopular on this one, it must have completely lost its magic on the move to audio.

ReplyDeleteI need to catch the Hap and Leonard series. I think I can catch what I have missed On Demand. The book series definitely looks interesting. I have The Ballad of Black Tom so maybe I need to check out the Lovecraft novel first as well. Thanks for the head's up.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, usually we hear about flooding on our news, but I may have missed your flooding in Texas, sounds bad. Terrible to have water through buildings, and the clean up involved. Occasionally an audio version of something just isn't right for the book.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the flooding, glad to hear your home is okay but it sounds awful. I'm not familiar with any of these but I had to click on Bad Chili- with a title like that I was very curious! Hope they're all good. :)

I read one or 2 of Lansdale's books. I liked them, but wanted to like them more. I met him at a few Horror Cons. He is so nice!

ReplyDeletei am looking for the best thriller novels and Suspense novels from where i could find those; one of my favorite Author's is Kris Allis who write their first novel "A False Start" and after that her latest novel is A Moving Screen which is a best suspense thriller.
