Shelf Control | Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Shelf Control is a feature at Bookshelf Fantasies where we confess each week the books we have on our shelves that we haven't read. This week I'm going with a classic.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again."

So the second Mrs. Maxim de Winter remembered the chilling events that led her down the turning drive past the beeches, white and naked, to the isolated gray stone manse on the windswept Cornish coast. With a husband she barely knew, the young bride arrived at this immense estate, only to be inexorably drawn into the life of the first Mrs. de Winter, the beautiful Rebecca, dead but never forgotten...her suite of rooms never touched, her clothes ready to be worn, her servant -- the sinister Mrs. Danvers -- still loyal. And as an eerie presentiment of the evil tightened around her heart, the second Mrs. de Winter began her search for the real fate of Rebecca...for the secrets of Manderley.

I always keep Rebecca in that stack of books I hope to read next. She's RIGHT THERE waiting to be read, but it still hasn't happened.

Have you read Rebecca?

If you ever want to buddy read a book I've mentioned on Shelf Control, please let me know!

  1. OMG! I am reading it right now. I have the audiobook from Audiobooksync.com and I am on Chapter 8. It's a bit slow and I have reading burn out right now so it will be awhile for me to finish it.

    1. I haven't thought about getting it on audio since it has been on my shelf for so long, but that might be a great thing to try to get from my library.

  2. I'd read Rebecca ages ago in school, and just re-read it last year. It was funny to realize how completely I'd forgotten some key plot points. I ended up really loving it! Now I want to read those other Daphne Du Maurier books on my shelves!

    1. Rebecca is the only Du Maurier book on my shelves. Apparently I'll be doing great to finally get to this one. ;) Seriously, though, I'm not familiar with her other works. I probably should look into that.

  3. I've read and it and seen the movie numerous times. It really is worth the read and would be a good one to read this season as it's kind of spooky.
